When the chance came to drive from Sydney to Perth, with stops in Melbourne, the Nullarbor Plain, and the stunning sights of Western Australia, we seized the moment. This wasn’t just a road trip—it became a life-changing adventure filled with breathtaking views, welcoming towns, and unforgettable moments. Let me take you through our vanlife journey.

Touchdown : Amazing Sydney

Landing in Sydney and exploring the city for a few days, visiting its neighbourhoods, Opera house, Sydney Harbour Bridge. Had a chance to drive to Blue Mountains and charming town of Katoomba.

Setting Off: Sydney to Melbourne

The initial stage of our adventure began in Sydney. As the sun illuminated Sydney Harbour, we loaded up our reliable van and embarked with enthusiasm. The journey to Melbourne was thrilling, with the Hume Highway offering lush valleys, rolling hills, and picturesque country towns.

During the trip, we made impromptu stops at charming cafés and local markets.

When we got to Melbourne, we were instantly hooked by the city's lively street art and its mix of different neighborhoods. We lost track of time wandering through hidden alleys, trying out local coffee, and enjoying food from every corner of the globe. As vanlifers, finding a comfy campsite just outside the city was a breeze. We parked our van by the Yarra River, and evenings around the campfire there were pure magic.

Melbourne to the Nullarbor: A Journey Through Nature

After spending several days in Melbourne, we set out once more, this time towards the Nullarbor Plain. First stop was The twelve apostoles on the Great Ocean road.

The stark difference between Melbourne's lively urban environment and the vast quietness of the Nullarbor was remarkable.

Driving across the Nullarbor was a surreal experience. With the Southern Ocean on one side and endless flat land on the other, it felt like stepping into an untouched realm.

A key stop was the famous Bunda Cliffs. Standing there, where the ocean seems infinite, we felt an indescribable peace.

Wildlife encounters brought the Nullarbor to life. We saw kangaroos hopping along the road and numerous birds flying overhead. Camping under the stars in this remote area captured the true spirit of vanlife, reminding us of the simple beauty of connecting with nature.

Western Australia: The Jewel of the South

After crossing the Nullarbor, our initial destination in Western Australia was Esperance, celebrated for its breathtaking beaches and the renowned pink lake, Lake Hillier. Upon parking our van, we were welcomed by the sight of crystal-clear waters and soft white sands, beckoning us to explore.

We spent several days hiking in Cape Le Grand National Park, where stunning views awaited around every corner. After each hike, we enjoyed a refreshing swim in the turquoise waters. The sunsets were magnificent, often showcasing vibrant shades of orange and pink that left us amazed.

As we continued our journey, the Margaret River region unveiled a different side of Western Australia. With its lush vineyards and gourmet food scene, it was a paradise for any food enthusiast. We dedicated a day to touring local wineries, sampling exquisite wines, with many places offering tastings for just $10—a small price for remarkable experiences. The scenery from these vineyards was postcard-perfect, capturing the beauty of the landscape.
